House fire claims the life of one person in Norfolk County

One person has been found dead inside of a home destroyed by fire in Norfolk County.

Emergency crews were called to the home on Turkey Point Road near Charlotteville Road 11 shortly after 8 p.m. on Thursday. When firefighters arrived they found the house engulfed in flames.

One person and two dogs were able to escape prior to the arrival of first responders. A second person was initially unaccounted for, Norfolk OPP said. However, firefighters going through the structure after the blaze was extinguished found the body of a person inside.

The name of the deceased is being withheld until family are notified.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Ontario Fire Marshal, OPP crime unit, and OPP forensic identification services will be on scene throughout the day Friday.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
