Special weather statement calls for 'wintry mix' Monday morning

A wintry mix of snow and freezing rain may greet parts of southwestern Ontario on Monday, which could impact the morning commute.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for London, Middlesex County, Elgin County, and Oxford County.

The weather agency said snow is expected to move into the region Monday morning for a few hours before possibly transitioning into ice pellets or freezing rain.

Total snowfall accumulations up to 5 cm will be possible. Some ice accretion may also occur if freezing rain or freezing drizzle does develop. The region could see up to 5cm of snow.

"Some ice accretion may also occur if freezing rain or freezing drizzle does develop," the statement read. "The Monday morning commute will likely be impacted and the public is advised to monitor future forecasts for further details."

Periods of snow are expected to begin before morning.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
