The province says it will be investing nearly $19-million to build a new French Catholic high school and daycare spot at an existing school in London.
The province said $18.9-million will be used to create 587 student spaces at the new École secondaire catholique Monseigneur-Bruyère, to be built at a London site that has yet to be acquired. Elsewhere, $267,412 will be used to provide 39 licensed child care spaces at École élémentaire Marie-Curie located at 40 Hunt Club Drive.
Joseph Picard, the Director of Education for Conseil scolaire Catholique Providence, said the investment will provide students with a state-of-the-art learning environment, allowing them to thrive in a digital age.
"For the past seven years, the Conseil scolaire Catholique Providence capital plan has identified this construction project as a priority for our families and community in London and the surrounding areas," said Picard.
The funds come as part of a $600-million investment aimed at creating 78 school and childcare-related projects across Ontario.
Just last week, Ontario's Ministry of Education announced a $7.2-million expansion at Eagle Heights Public School in west London and an additional $2.7-million for a childcare centre at a London Catholic District School Board school.
For the 2021-2022 school year, the province said it plans to provide school boards with $1.4 billion in funding to renew and maintain existing schools. The 2022 Ontario general election is scheduled for June.
