"A female posing to work for an investment company in the United States had the victim send over $30,000 worth of Bitcoin to be invested," STPS said in a statement.
Police said that the victim, a St. Thomas resident, realized that they were being scammed when the investor continually asked for more money.
The investigation is ongoing.
People in southern Huron and Lambton counties are being told to limit their time outside.
