Man arrested for trafficking woman for 18 months

After more than a year on the run, a man wanted for trafficking a woman over an extended period of time has been arrested by London police.

Police had been trying to track down 29-year-old Joel Joshua Ramocan since December 2020. An arrest warrant for him was issued at that time for charges of trafficking in persons by exercising control, gaining financial or material benefit trafficking a person over 18, material benefit from sexual services, and procuring and exercising control.

The charges stem from an investigation that began in July 2020. A woman told police that she had been trafficked over the course of 18 months by a man she had met when she was 16-years-old. The woman was trafficked in the sex trade in London and elsewhere in the province after she turned 18, police said.

Ramocan was arrested on Thursday, police said.

A second man facing 23 charges in relation to the same case was arrested following a separate investigation in September 2021.
