OPP investigate fatal fire east of Woodstock

Police in Oxford County have launched an investigation after one person died in a fire east of Woodstock Friday morning.

According to provincial police, emergency crews responded at around 9:30 a.m. after a fire broke out inside a detached garage located on a property on Victoria Street in Princeton.

Members of the Blandford-Blenheim Fire Service from Princeton and Drumbo, along with Brant County firefighters from Paris and Burford arrived to find the structure full engulfed.

Crews were able to put the fire out before it could spread to neighbouring buildings.

Once firefighters were able to get inside the garage, an individual was located and pronounced dead on scene.

A post mortem is scheduled and further updates about the deceased's identity will be released once next of kin is notified.

The Ontario Fire Marshal continues to investigate the incident.
