Charges laid in Old South weapons investigation

A 37-year-old man is facing charges after a weapons investigation in Old South saw six people arrested on Sunday.

London police were called about a man believed to have a gun in the area of Emery Street West and Paddington Avenue around 11:50 a.m.

Officers, including those with the emergency response unit, flooded the area.

The investigation soon took police to the area of Tecumseh Avenue East and Edward Street where six people were taken into police custody.

No injuries were reported.

Less than a day later, police announced a 37-year-old London man had been charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, and operating a vehicle while prohibited. He is scheduled to appear in London court on Monday.

Police said the accused and the victim were known to each other and there is no threat to public safety.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
