Two London police officers assaulted during arrest of trespasser

A 50-year-old man is accused of assaulting two London police officers, causing serious injury to one.

Police were called about a man who was allegedly trespassing in the lobby of an apartment building on Jacksway Crescent in the north end around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.

"Upon police arrival, officers attempted to speak to the male, however he became uncooperative and refused to leave," police said.

The man allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted two officers. More police were called to the apartment building and the suspect was taken into custody. He was charged with assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.

One of the officers was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, the other was not hurt.

Police Chief Steve Williams wished the officer a "speedy recovery" in a tweet on Monday morning.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
