UPDATE: Boil water advisory in Mt. Elgin lifted

Residents of a hamlet in South-West Oxford no longer need to boil their water.

The boil water advisory that was issued for Mt. Elgin residents on Wednesday has been lifted.

Oxford County officials said Wednesday that damage due to a watermain break left the area's water supply system open to potential contamination. Residents were advised to boil their tap water or use bottled water for drinking, making infant formula and juices, cooking, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, and brushing teeth. Water was to be brought to a rolling boil for one minute and allowed to cool before being used.

The advisory was lifted on Friday.
