Trucker charged with drunk driving after big rig stopped on Hwy. 401

Provincial police allege a transport truck passing through the London region on Highway 401 earlier this week was being driven by an impaired driver.

A Middlesex OPP officer stopped the big rig, which was in the eastbound lanes of the highway just east of Wellington Road around 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

A screening device was used to determine whether the driver was impaired before he was arrested and taken to the local detachment for more tests.

A 60-year-old North York man has been charged with impaired driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

The incident has prompted OPP to issue a reminder to the public to call police if they spot a driver they believe may be impaired.
