Family escapes burning St. Thomas home

A St. Thomas family escaped an overnight house fire without injury.

Firefighters were called to the home on Chestnut Street early Friday morning. The family made it out of the burning home safely, the St. Thomas Fire Department said on social media.

Investigators say it appears the fire started in the home's carport, and spread quickly through the house.

They also believe what's left of the home will have to be demolished.

The investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing. Damage is estimated at roughly $400,000.
