Man dead after being ejected, hit by vehicle in Tillsonburg

Provincial police continue to investigate a crash that claimed the life of a 26-year-old man in Tillsonburg.

Emergency crews were called to the collision on Lisgar Avenue just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Oxford OPP initially believed a pedestrian had been struck, however, further investigation determined a passenger had been ejected from a moving vehicle that then hit him.

Wyatt Chambers, 26, of Tillsonburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene, but returned later and was taken into custody, police said. Charges against that individual are pending.

Lisgar between Fifth Street and Van Norman Drive was closed for several hours. It was reopened around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police are asking anyone with information about this collision to call them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

The fatal collision was the second incident to bring emergency crews to the Lisgar Avenue on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, tenants of an apartment building on the street had to be rescued after fire broke out in a fourth floor unit.
