The number of days a week COVID-19 mass vaccination clinics in London and Mount Brydges are open is being cut.
The Middlesex London Health Unit has announced that starting next week the vaccination clinic at the Caradoc Community Centre in Mount Brydges will go from being open five days a week to just three. Then on March 29, hours of operation at the Western Fair District Agriplex mass vaccination clinic will be reduced from seven to five days a week.
The decision to scale back operations at the two clinics comes as demand for the vaccine dwindles. More than 93 per cent of area residents aged 12 and older have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 91.4 per cent in the same age bracket have had two doses. Since the first vaccine was administered in December 2020, a total of 1,108,549 doses have made it into arms locally.
Under the new schedule, the Mount Brydges clinic will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, while the London site will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.
"The health unit has already adjusted it’s COVID-19 vaccination appointment booking website in order to prevent appointments from being booked when the clinic is not open, however the change in hours and days of operation is important for those seeking a vaccination on a walk-in basis," the health unit said in a statement issued on Thursday.
Earlier this month, the clinic at the Earl Nichols Recreation Centre administered its final dose of the vaccine. It is the second time since the vaccine became available that the south London clinic has been shuttered.
The health unit is continuing to add to its list of pop-up and school-based vaccination clinics, part of a push to make getting the shot more accessible. Between Friday and the end of the month,17 clinics are scheduled in London and Middlesex County.
