Charges laid after store owner and police officer threatened with a knife

A 19-year-old man faces a list of charges, including assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and resisting arrest after an incident in St. Thomas on Friday.

St. Thomas Police said it started when a suspect kicked over a sign belonging to a local business. When the store owner confronted the man, the suspect pulled a knife out of his pocket and threatened him.

An off-duty police officer noticed the scuffle and intervened. The suspect tossed the knife but then threatened the officer.

More officers arrived on the scene and arrested the suspect.

He also faces a charge of possessing a weapon dangerous to the public.

The charges have not been proven in court.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
