Pedestrian killed in north London

London police are investigating after a female pedestrian was killed in north London on Monday.

According to police, the woman was hit by a vehicle in an apartment building parking lot in the area of Western Road and Hollywood Crescent around 1:15 p.m.

Police say the driver stayed on the scene after the collision.

As police investigated, they asked the public to avoid the area.

In an update provided late Monday evening, Western University President Alan Shepard expressed sympathy to the victim's loved ones.

"The Western community is shocked and saddened by the news of the tragic death on Western Road," Shepard said in a statement posted on social media. "Details are continuing to emerge. In the meantime, we offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of those who are affected. We are never prepared for this kind of loss."

He added that counselling services are being offered to Western students or employees in need of support.
