Man seriously hurt by stick-wielding vandal

A 36-year-old St. Thomas man has been charged with half a dozen offences after rocks were thrown at a vehicle and its driver hit with a stick.

According to St. Thomas police, a man threw rocks at the vehicle as it traveled through the downtown area on Sunday. When the driver got out to inspect the damage, the man is alleged to have hit him in the head with a large stick.

The driver suffered a serious wound to the head, police said.

Officers were called to the scene and a 36-year-old man was arrested. He has been charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats, mischief, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failing to comply with a release order, and failing to comply with a probation order.

The man was scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on Monday.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
