The driver of a vehicle that burst into flames after being partially crushed by a transport truck on Highway 401 west of London, surprisingly, walked away from the serious collision.
Emergency crews were called to the crash in the westbound lanes of the highway near Union Road during Monday afternoon's snowstorm.
Provincial police posted a photo to social media that shows the big rig on top of what would have been the back seat of the vehicle. The front end of the vehicle has also been crumpled.
"OPP officers [are] amazed that there were no fatalities involved in this collision," said Acting Sergeant Ed Sanchuk. "One vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. The good news is the individuals were able to escape both of the vehicles that were involved."
The crash kept the westbound lanes closed into the evening. A winter weather travel advisory from Environment Canada was in effect at the time of the collision. The system was forecast to dump between 4 to 8 cm of snow on the region.
Another 2 cm could potentially fall Tuesday morning making roads slick and prompting police to remind drivers to slow down.
The return of winter weather will be short-lived as daytime highs above 20 C are expected by the weekend.
