Woodstock mayor facing more sex assault charges

More charges of sexual assault have been laid against the mayor of Woodstock.

London police announced Tuesday that Trevor Birtch has been charged with three counts of sexual assault. The 47-year-old was already facing charges of assault, sexual assault, and sexual assault with choking that were laid in February.

According to London police, the new charges relate to a victim who Birtch knew, but not the same person who made the previous allegations against him. He is to appear in court on July 4 to answer to the charges.

In February, Birtch was charged after an investigation by London police into incidents that are alleged to have occurred between February 14 and December 13, 2021. His next court appearance on those charges is scheduled for May 2.

Birtch was first elected as mayor of Woodstock in 2014 and is currently serving his second term in the position. Woodstock council recently voted in favour of a motion to put him on paid leave.

None of the allegations against Birtch have been proven in court.
