Missing plane from Delhi found crashed in Northern Ontario

Provincial police have found the wreckage of a small plane that vanished after taking off from Delhi more than a month ago.

The Piper Comanche aircraft left the Norfolk County town headed to Marathon, Ont. on April 14. However, the plane disappeared from the radar near Red Rock Lake the same day.

Emergency crews launched a 10-day search for the plane that turned into a missing persons investigation on April 24. The aerial search of the plane's last known location was hampered by inclement weather and deep levels of snow.

On Saturday, OPP and civilian helicopters that were performing additional searches found the downed plane in Lake Superior Provincial Park, approximately 2 kilometres east of Old Woman Bay, OPP said.

The two people onboard the aircraft were pronounced dead.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
