Man runs across Highway 401 to get away from police

Charges have been laid against a London man accused of running across Highway 401 and assaulting a police officer who tried to stop him.

Middlesex OPP were called about a man walking along the eastbound lanes of the busy highway near Highbury Avenue just before 5 a.m. on Thursday.

When police arrived, the man tried to cross the highway to get away, OPP said. After a brief struggle that saw an officer assaulted with a weapon the man was arrested.

No injuries were reported.

A 28-year-old London man has been charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, resisting a peace officer, being a pedestrian using a controlled-access highway, and failure to comply with release order. He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
