First heat event of the season

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for most of Southern Ontario to start the week.

Hot and increasingly humid weather is expected for London-Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Sarnia-Lambton, Huron-Perth, Grey, and Southern Bruce counties.

Temperatures could reach almost 30 degrees on Monday and into the low 30s on Tuesday, with little relief until Wednesday.

The weather agency warned that everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults, infants and young children, and people with chronic illnesses.

People are reminded to:

• drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty

• keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending more time in a cool place

• never leave people or pets in a parked vehicle
