Teen charged in alleged impaired driving crash

London police have laid charges against a 16-year-old following a single-vehicle crash in the city's southwest end over the weekend.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police were called to Commissioners Road West and Wonderland Road after a vehicle was found crashed at that location. Police say witnesses saw the driver run from the vehicle, heading northbound, prior to their arrival.

With help from the London Police Service Canine Unit, and a description of the man, a suspect was located and arrested near Westmorland Road and Eaton Park Drive.

No one was injured during the incident.

The teen, whose name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has since been charged with impaired driving,  failing to report a collision, and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration above zero.

He is scheduled to appear in court in July.
