London police officers spat on, nearly hit by vehicle

A Strathroy man is facing charges after a bizarre incident that saw London police officers yelled at, spat on, and nearly hit by a speeding vehicle.

According to police, the officers were on Baseline Road West near Wharncliffe Road South just after 9 p.m. on Monday when a man approached them and began yelling. The man spat on the officers before walking away.

"The suspect returned in a motor vehicle, driving it through the parking lot towards the officers at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued towards the officers until they jumped out of the way of the moving car," police said.

The man then got out of the vehicle and walked toward the officers again. As police tried to arrest him, he allegedly began resisting and a taser was used to subdue him.

One officer suffered minor injuries, police said.

A 31-year-old Strathroy man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and resisting arrest. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 11.
