Man assaulted by pipe-wielding suspect downtown

Charges have been laid against a 25-year-old Londoner after an unprovoked attack involving a metal pole in the downtown.

London police said a man was walking to a bus stop in the area of Richmond and Dundas streets around 6:45 a.m. on Monday when he was approached by a man holding a pole.

The man was allegedly assaulted multiple times by the individual with the pole.

Police were called and a suspect was arrested nearby.

No injuries were reported.

A 25-year-old London man has been charged with assault with a weapon. He remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges on Wednesday.

Police have said the two men did not know each other.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
