Man hit with shovel in unprovoked attack in Strathroy

Charges have been laid against a 43-year-old Lambton County man after an unprovoked attack involving a shovel in Strathroy that sent one person to hospital.

Strathroy-Caradoc police were called about a man lying unconscious on Hull Road near Caradoc Street North around 8 a.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived they determined the 35-year-old man had been hit with a shovel in an unprovoked attack.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A suspect in the attack tried to get away from officers by taking off into a nearby wooded area, police said.

When officers caught up to him he allegedly resisted arrest. Officers used a taser to subdue him.

A Lambton County man has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and resisting arrest. He has been remanded into custody and with a future court date in London.
