Driver killed in crash on Highway 402

A rollover crash on Highway 402 in Strathroy has claimed the life of a driver.

The single-vehicle collision happened in the eastbound lanes between Centre Road and Hickory Drive just after 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital where they later died from their injuries. The name of the deceased is not being released until police are able to notify the family.

Middlesex OPP are investigating the cause of the crash. The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours, but re-opened in the early afternoon.

In a social media post, OPP asked drivers in the area for patience.

"I recognize this is an inconvenience for people. We never like shutting down the highway, but you have to remember at a time like this we all need a bit of patience," said Constable Jeff Hare. "These moments are difficult for the family involved, the first responders and the Good Samaritans that helped out."

Hare also reminded drivers, no matter where they are going, to pay attention to their speed and surroundings to ensure they get to their destination safely.
