SIU seeking witnesses to incident involving cyclist in Woodstock

Ontario's police watchdog is looking for anyone who may have witnessed an incident involving a cyclist and a Woodstock officer around a local park early Wednesday morning.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) confirmed the altercation happened at about 3:30 a.m. near the area of Roth Park. A Woodstock police officer is said to have seen a man on a bicycle who they believed matched the description of a person of interest.

When the officer attempted to arrest the cyclist, the man ended up falling from his bicycle. He was later taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed that he sustained a serious injury.

The SIU has assigned two investigators and a forensic investigator to the case.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
