Woman in hospital, OPP investigating shooting in Simcoe

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to emergency calls that reported a shooting at approximately 10:57 a.m. on Saturday.

Officers said that when they arrived at a residence on West Street, in Simcoe, they found a woman who had suffered a gunshot wound. The woman has been transported to a local area hospital to be treated for her injuries.

In an update on Sunday afternoon, OPP said the suspect is described as a heavier-set black male with dreadlocked hair. According to police, he was wearing a grey hoodie with dark pants and was seen entering a red or burgundy SUV that was parked on Nelson Street South. The vehicle was last seen travelling on Queen Street North.

The incident is believed to be targeted, but police advise members of the public to always be aware of their personal safety.

The investigation is ongoing, the OPP ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or captured it on video, to contact them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
