Thirsty thief pulls knife on liquor store security guard

A 29-year-old London man has been charged with armed robbery after a bottle of booze was taken and a security guard threatened downtown.

A man walked into a business on York Street just after noon on Wednesday where he grabbed a bottle of liquor from a shelf and allegedly tried to conceal it under his clothing. The man proceeded to leave the store without paying.

When a security guard tried to stop him, the man pulled out a knife and then took off on a bicycle, London police said.

The guard was not physically hurt.

Police arrested a man in connection with the robbery shortly after on Dundas Street near Talbot Street. The stolen bottle of alcohol was also recovered.

A London man is charged with one count of armed robbery. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 8.
