Niagara man charged in man's kidnapping in London

Charges have been laid against a 22-year-old Niagara Falls man more than a week after the targeted kidnapping of a man in London.

London police began investigating after they were notified last Wednesday about a man that had not been seen for several days who may have been abducted. Investigators determined the man, whose identity was not released, was likely taken from a home in London and had been the victim of extortion.

He was found a day later, suffering from minor injuries.

At the time police said the incident was targeted and not random.

A suspect in the case was arrested on Thursday, police said.

Peijie Zhao, 22, of Niagara Falls has been charged with one count of kidnapping. He was scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charge on Friday.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
