$150K northwest London apartment fire deemed suspicious

London police and fire officials are probing the cause of a suspicious fire that caused $150,000 damage to a northwest London apartment building Monday morning.

Firefighters were called to 85 Fiddlers Green Rd., near Oxford Street West and Hyde Park Road around 7:30 a.m. The fire was contained to a ground-level unit and was quickly extinguished by fire crews.

Tenants were allowed to return to their units once smoke was ventilated from the building.

One person was treated and released at the scene by paramedics.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified about the blaze due to the severity of damage.

Investigators are working to determine the "origin and cause" of the fire, the London Fire Department said in a post to social media.

By mid-afternoon, police said they had determined the fire to be suspicious in nature. That makes it the second suspicious fire in the city within a three hour time span. The other happened at the former Dairy Queen on Wharncliffe Road near Baseline Road around 5 a.m.

Police are asking anyone with information about either fire to call them at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
