OPP charge man found lying on the road

A man found lying on an Elgin County road faces charges after he allegedly tried to brawl with the officer who stopped to check on him.

At around 12:25 a.m. Saturday, an Ontario Provincial Police officer was driving on Lake Line in Southwold Township when they located a man on the roadway.

When the officer stopped to help the man, he reportedly became angry and began a physical confrontation with the officer. Shortly after that, OPP say the man tried to take off on a motorcycle, but was arrested before he could get away.

The man, a 23-year-old from London, has been charged with driving while impaired, driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding 80 milligrams, resisting a peace officer, and other  Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act offences.

He is scheduled to appear in a St. Thomas courtroom at a later date.
