Transport hits truck protecting Hwy. 401 maintenance crew

All westbound lanes of Highway 401 near London were temporarily closed Thursday night after a tractor-trailer crashed into a road maintenance truck.

Middlesex OPP say the maintenance truck was being used to protect a crew painting lines on the busy highway near Veterans Memorial Parkway when the collision occurred around 10:15 p.m.

The driver of the big rig was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was hurt.

The westbound lanes between Veterans Memorial Parkway and Westchester Bourne were closed for several hours to allow crews to clean-up and police to investigate. All lanes were reopened by 4 a.m. Friday.

The investigation is ongoing. So far, no charges have been laid.
