Police searching Lake Erie for missing boater

A search continued Wednesday for a missing boater on Lake Erie.

The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police said it was alerted just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday about a missing boater who had set out from the Port Burwell marina but did not return. The boater left the marina around 2 p.m. that day and was scheduled to return before night fall.

"Members of the JRCC, Canadian Coast Guard, American Coast Guard, Bayham Fire and Emergency Services, Elgin County EMS and Elgin County OPP continued to search throughout the night," police said "The search resumed in the morning with other resources including OPP Aviation Services along with four OPP Marine Units."

The boat is described as a white, 21-foot striper with a black canopy.
