London man accused of stealing over $50K from elderly father

A London man wanted by St. Thomas police for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from his elderly father has been arrested.

St. Thomas police were notified by a long-term care home about suspected financial abuse against one of its residents.

Detectives with the police criminal investigations branch found that during the time the resident's son was acting as his financial power of attorney, more than $50,000 was stolen. The misappropriation of the funds dated as far back as 2020, police said.

A 35-year-old London man turned himself in to police on Thursday.

He has been charged with theft by a person holding power of attorney over $5,000.
