Movati Athletic closing London gyms

A London founded gym is closing the doors to its two locations in the city.

Movati Athletic notified staff and members Tuesday that it will be shutting down its north and south London locations as of 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The fitness chain cited pandemic hardships and real estate challenges as the reason for the closure.

"This was a difficult decision, based on unique circumstances that were isolated to London. None of our other clubs across Canada are affected," a statement posted to the gym's website said.

The two London locations are both located on Wonderland Road. The gym has served Londoners for 25 years and employed more than 100 people.

“We’re sorry to share this news. We know how much our members love our clubs and the difference they helped make in your health and fitness, the company said. "We’re terribly disappointed today, but we’re forever grateful.”

Refunds will be provided to members who paid in advance and automatic bank withdrawals for gym goers who paid every two weeks will be stopped.
