Six people hurt in four-vehicle crash on 401 outside London

A crash involving several vehicles, including two transport trucks, on Highway 401 west of London Thursday afternoon is under investigation.

According to Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the call about the crash came in at around 2 p.m.

Emergency crews with Elgin St. Thomas EMS, Middlesex-London EMS, Oneida EMS, Ornge Land Ambulance, and Southwold Fire Department responded to the crash on the eastbound side of the 401 near Shedden between Union Road and Colonel Talbot Road.

OPP officials say the crash involved four vehicles in total, two commercial vehicles and two passenger vehicles.

"The vehicles were occupied by a total of six individuals. Five individuals were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries and one individual was transported to hospital with suspected life-threatening injuries," a statement from Elgin County OPP read.

The crash saw a stretch of the eastbound side of the highway between Union Road and Colonel Talbot Road closed for several hours. All lanes were reopened just after 11 p.m.
