Should negotiations take a turn, Western University's faculty are prepared to walk the picket line.
The union representing the post-secondary institution's 1,500 faculty members and 50 librarians has announced its members have voted 91 per cent in favour of a strike.
"This strong show of support will certainly strengthen our negotiating team’s ability to bargain better provisions for reward and recognition of faculty effort, equitable workloads, health and wellness, and job security, as they return to the table with our employer," the University of Western Ontario Faculty Association said in a statement.
The vote by faculty members was held last week and authorizes a strike "if necessary".
According to the association, the university shot down 20 of 55 proposals pitched at the bargaining table last month. It has also not commented on about 20 others.
"The employer has not shown receptiveness to most of our proposals on workload and those for part-time faculty," the association previously said.
Talks between Western administration and the faculty association resume Tuesday and will continue until Thursday.
