Pair from Port Burwell accused of hit and run in stolen vehicle

Provincial police in Elgin County have arrested two people accused of stealing a car and taking off from the scene of a three-vehicle crash east of St. Thomas.

At around 5:15 p.m. Thursday, police were called to the scene of the crash on Heritage Line near Maple Grove Road in Bayham. When officers arrived, they were told by witnesses that two occupants in a vehicle, that had been reported stolen, drove off after the crash.

An occupant in another vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, occupants in a third vehicle were not hurt.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, and members of the OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Units were called to search the area and the two suspects were located and arrested.

The pair, a man and a woman ages 27 and 23, both of Port Burwell, are jointly charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. The 27-year-old man faces additional charges of failing to stop at the scene of a crash, causing bodily harm, careless driving causing bodily har, driving while suspended and possession of a schedule I substance, methamphetamine.

Both are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
