Semi-automatic rifle seized from south London home

A London man faces several weapons-related charges after police seized an illegal firearm and ammunition from a home in the city's southwest end.

On Thursday, officers with London Police Service's Guns and Gangs Section, Emergency Response Unit, and Canine Unit conducted a search at a residence near Viscount Road and Andover Drive. Officers seized a Savage Model 64F .22 calibre semi-automatic long rifle, 68 rounds of ammunition, and a loaded .22 calibre magazine.

A 26-year-old London man now faces several charges including:

• Storing a firearm, prohibited firearm or prohibited device in a careless manner • Storing ammunition in a careless manner • Possessing a firearm while knowingly not being the licence holder • Possessing a firearm, other than restricted or prohibited, while knowingly not being the licence holder • Possession of a firearm while prohibited

The accused was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
