Freezing rain expected early Tuesday

The morning commute Tuesday could be an icy one with a system packing freezing rain expected to move across the region overnight.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for London and Middlesex County, as well as Oxford, Elgin, Grey, Bruce, Huron, and Perth counties. The national weather agency states periods of rain will begin around midnight with rain briefly switching to freezing rain overnight before changing back to light rain.

Even a slight amount of freezing rain can cause roads, sidewalks and parking lots to become incredibly slippery, Environment Canada warned.

Drivers are advised to slow down, watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance in icy conditions.

Any ice that forms overnight won't stick around long. Environment Canada anticipates daytime highs Tuesday to climb above 5 C.
