'I only bought one ticket last year': Lucan farmer claims $100K lotto prize

One lottery ticket was all Allan Cunningham needed to end 2022 with an extra six figures in his bank account.

The Lucan farmer and business owner won $100,000 after splurging on a $100 Instant Ultimate lottery ticket.

"I only bought one ticket last year – but when I saw an advertisement for this ticket, I felt inspired to purchase one,” Cunningham said while picking up his winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto recently.

An Instant Ultimate ticket included instant scratch-and-win games and a chance to claim one of 40 $1 million prizes in a draw held on December 31, 2022.

Cunningham said he was so surprised by his win he needed his wife to verify it for him.

"She said, ‘you’ve got to be kidding.’ And then we scanned it using the OLG App and saw Big Winner $100,000,” said Cunningham. “This feels cool, scary, and surreal."

The 52-year-old plans on using some of his winnings to build a new shed.

The winning ticket was purchased at the SK Convenience on Main Street in Exeter.
