Search for gun leads to drug trafficking charges against Londoner

A London man has been charged after police searching for a firearm ended up finding cocaine.

A person called London police after seeing a man in a vehicle with what they thought was a gun in the area of Wellington Road and Southdale Road East around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Police searched the area and ended up stopping a suspect vehicle in the area of York and Waterloo streets a short time later.

The man driving the vehicle was arrested.

While a search did not turn up a firearm, police did seize 12 grams of cocaine valued at $1,440 and $1,000 cash.

A section of York Street was temporarily closed while police investigated.

A 24-year-old London man has been charged with one count of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. He has since been released from police custody and has a court appearance scheduled for March 31.
