East Lions Community Centre to re-open Wednesday

After a partial roof collapse caused it to close last week, the East Lions Community Centre will re-open on Wednesday.

The City of London announced Tuesday that the centre will re-open for recreational programming after engineers determined it is safe to do so.

A portion of the centre's roof and soffit came loose and fell to the ground on Friday, forcing the city to close the centre to allow structural engineers to investigate.

"Structural engineers were dispatched to the site and following their assessment, it was determined that the building can safely reopen to the public and users can enter and exit the building from all entrances," the city said in a statement issued Tuesday.

The engineers will continue to investigate to figure out what caused the collapse, as well as identify what repairs need to be made and how much those repairs will cost.

In the meantime, the City is thanking the community for its patience.
