Overnight barbershop blaze causes $300K damage

Damage is pegged at $300,000 after an overnight fire at a south London barbershop.

Firefighters were called to Berenice Barbershop at 1775 Ernest Ave., just south of Southdale Road East around 1 a.m. Tuesday. The flames managed to spread to the two neighbouring units in the plaza before fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze about half an hour after their arrival.

"Fire damage did go beyond the unit of origin affecting both units to each side," the London Fire Department said on social media.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators will now work to determine the origin, cause and circumstances of the fire.
