St. Thomas resident charged with arson, assault

One person was arrested and faces three charges after being chased down by St. Thomas police on Tuesday.

The incident happened just before 10:30 a.m. at an address on Metcalfe Street.

Police were called to the scene for an altercation between two people in the midst of an active fire.

The St. Thomas Fire Department handled the fire before officers arrived at the scene. Nobody sustained any injuries. However, the dispute between the two people continued and resulted in damage to a nearby vehicle, police said.

Officers reportedly engaged in a brief foot pursuit after one of the people tried to flee the area.

As a result of the incident, a 43-year-old of St. Thomas is charged with one count each of mischief, arson, and assault with a weapon.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
