One arrested after suspicious house fire in southwest London

Fire officials and London police are investigating a suspicious early morning house fire that caused $80,000 damage.

Firefighters were called to the two-storey townhouse at 226 Highview Avenue West, south of Commissioners Road just after 4 a.m. Monday.

Smoke was coming from the second floor when fire crews arrived. They worked to extinguish the blaze and ventilate smoke from the home.

One person was assessed by paramedics at the scene, but did not require hospitalization, the London Fire Department said.

The fire was deemed suspicious and one person was taken into police custody. At this point, no charges have been laid.

The investigation into the origin, cause, and circumstances of the fire is ongoing. Investigators are expected to remain on scene throughout the day.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
