Commercial vehicle collision leads to careless driving charge

One driver has been charged and the other airlifted to hospital after a two vehicle collision in Malahide on Wednesday.

The crash happened near the intersection of Lyons Line and Putnam Road around noon. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) asked the public to avoid the area shortly after noon as officers from the Elgin County detachment investigated the incident.

Police closed Lyons Line from Whitaker Road to Pigram Line. Putnam Road was also closed between Crossley Hunter Line and Century Line.

Later Wednesday afternoon, OPP provided more details on the collision, confirming that two commercial vehicles were involved in the incident.

Police said one of the drivers was airlifted to hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.

The other driver, a 36-year-old from Woodbridge, was charged with careless driving as a result of the investigation.

OPP say the area will re-open to traffic once the vehicles are removed from the road.
