A week after a suspected impaired driver crashed into a London police cruiser and then took off, an arrest has been made.
Police had been searching for a 56-year-old woman in connection with the incident since last Thursday. It was around 3:25 a.m. that day when police were called about a driver that was believed to be impaired in the area of Central Avenue and Richmond Street.
Officers spotted the suspect vehicle heading toward them on Talbot Street, but when they tried to stop it the driver reversed and hit one of the cruisers. The vehicle then sped away at a high rate of speed, police said.
No one was hurt and the cruiser had only minor damage.
Police did not chase the vehicle following the collision. Instead a description of it was given to other officers in the area. It was found abandoned a short time later near Adelaide Street and Commissioners Road East.
Hours later police obtained an arrest warrant for a 56-year-old London woman on charges of dangerous driving, failure to stop for police, and failure to comply with an undertaking. The woman's photo was also publicly released.
The woman has been located and arrested, police announced on Thursday. They are thanking the public for their help in the case.
