Police investigate bomb threat at northwest London school

A bomb threat at a northwest London Catholic school caused some panic Wednesday morning.

London police were notified just before 8 a.m. about the threat found outside of St Marguerite D'Youville Catholic Elementary School on Hawthorne Road. Officers conducted a preliminary check of the building, followed by a more thorough search inside and outside with help of the canine unit. Both searches turned up nothing suspicious.

Police did not identified the school by name, but the London District Catholic School Board confirmed the threatening message was left outside of the Hawthorne Road school.

"We have been alerted to some graffiti on our school that makes reference to an alleged threat to the safety of students and/or staff," said a board spokesperson. "All staff and students will remain outside until the police can investigate and clear the buildings."

Several police officers and marked cruisers were seen outside of the school mid-morning.

"The investigation, including examination into the source of the threat, is in its early stages, and more information will be provided when available," police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
